With exactly one week to go until NaNoWriMo 2014, I'm hosting a prompt call to get in shape.

Since the unification of Annemark under one king, Aster's family worked as their poison tasters. When the queen dies of a suspected poisoning, Aster's father is taken as a political prisoner due to be executed, and she is sent to a monastery in the far countryside. Years later, Aster returns to the city where she lived as a little girl and is drawn back into the conspiracy surrounding the queen's death and the search for the rightful heir to the throne.

Every day between now and 1 November, I will write* 1,667 words to one prompt or a combination of prompts. Stories and scenes will introduce the country of Annemark and the major players in the political game - even those characters who might not yet know how important they are to the country's future.

1,667 words of fiction will be free every day (for a total of 11,000+ words of fiction).

Sponsors will get a weekly update of plot events (if desired) and an excerpt from that week's words. (I write my stories longhand.) Starting in January 2015, sponsors will have access to the entire story as it is typed up and edited. Once editing is finished, the story will be made available in a serialized format. Please contact me if you are interested in sponsoring.

Please signal boost. If you comment with a link, please also give me character names. If anyone mentions they have arrived via your link, your character name will be used somewhere in the story.

*n.b.: I will be away from my computer for a few days, but stories will be posted by 1 November.

  1. Pick one, two or three of my characters. (They can be from different 'verses, or the same.)
  2. Choose a fairy tale or folk tale. (Please give me a link to somewhere I can read it online, if possible.)
  3. I will write a retelling of that fairy/folk tale with those characters. (… eventually)

Character lists under the cut…Collapse )

title: Original Soundtracks 1 (or, A Save Tokyo City Story)
rating: PG
word count: 114
community: writerverse
prompt: Phase #10: Challenge #06: Weekly Quick Fic #02 (soundtracks for imagined films)
summary: a poem about Tokyo
notes: "私たちの大きな夢" means "our big dream," it's the name of a U2 song; "胸の鼓動を高める物ように" is from another U2 song, and it means "like a thing that makes [your] heart beat faster,"
and "胸の孤独を高める物ように" is a pun, because "鼓動" (loosely, the "beat" in "heartbeat") and "孤独" ("loneliness or isolation") are pronounced the same way. "友&愛" means "friendship and love," and would be pronounced the same as "you and I."

a profane capitalism of rioutous soundsCollapse )
